Shampoo bars don't work well in my hair, so that's not an option. The only fading/loss of colour has been with colours such as yellow and orange, which is either due to inferior quality ink or a poor reaction to my own body chemistry. All the other colours remain vivid.I know of nobody else who has had problems due to using essential oils and I have many tattooed friends who do so.
