I have visited Provence, France a couple of times a been compiling good aromatic places to visit there, of which there are many due to the production of lavender and lavandin essential and Grasse being being a long standing centre for perfumery. Some of these I have been to and with the others I will see if I can find the websites to check out what's going on. It is easy to find farms and shops to see distillation and to buy the products including the lovely local lavender honey. Choosing the Southern slopes of the Vercors to install an experimental garden in 1972 was choosing the best spot to grow aromatic and medicinal plants and extract the purest possible essential oils. This quickly encouraged Sanoflore to opt for organic agriculture and become an expert in Herbal remedies, Aromatherapy and organic Cosmetics. In addition to the use of AB and Cosmebio labels, the Sanoflore laboratory is one of the brands recommended by the One Voice association, which advocates an end to animal testing. Resolutely modern, the Sanoflore laboratory has decided to develop further by joining the Active Cosmetics division of the L’Oréal Group (October 2006). Worth a visit: the shop and the Aroma Domain (created over 10 years ago, a 300m2 botanical garden features over 500 aromatic, medicinal and perfume plants grown organically and used by the laboratory in its products). Sanoflore was a great place to visit. Back at home I spent many a sunny afternoon walking around what we called the Lavender fields. It's a beautiful place in the Cotswolds to walk and amazing to see all that Lavender in full bloom.
