I'm looking for a book that will give me help with treatment plans, I can't find any info on how long to treat and how often. I find it quite straight forward to choose the oils but I'm just guessing on the treatment plans! I will be sitting my IFA exams in July.

Fancy a visit to France this year? I have visited Provence, France a couple of times a been compiling good aromatic places to visit there, of which there are many due to the production of lavender and lavandin essential and Grasse being being a long standing centre for perfumery. Some of these I have been to and with the others I will see if I can find the websites to check out what's going on. The best time to go is the end of July as they are cutting and distilling the lavender and lavendin and also have lots of local lovely lavender festivals

Musées International de la Parfumerie, 8 Place du Cours - the International Perfumery museum in Grasse do 1 hour guided tours nahttp://en.museesdegrasse.com/

Molinard has been a perfume House in Grasse since 1849 and they do great informative tours about the history of their perfumery business with lots of historical things to see and ways, which you can see on the website
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.molinard.com/&ei=F9GpS_KdN5z80wSG3rW_AQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBsQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmolinard%2Bperfumes%2Bgrasse%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den

On the Plataux of Valesole you get the vast fields of mostly lavendin and it is a sight to behold. It is easy to find farms and shops to see distillation and to buy the products including the lovely local lavender honey. The website below is the valensole Village website and has some lovely things to see and do and places to stay.
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.valensole.fr/sections.php%3Fop%3Dviewarticle%26artid%3D127&ei=U9OpS_K_IdS5jAfPqOH7BQ&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CA4Q7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dlavandes%2Bangelvin%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den

Sanoflore – Gigors et Lozeron (Drôme)
Sanoflore lives in harmony with nature, fragrances, lavender fields and mountains of the Vercors
Regional Natural Park. Choosing the Southern slopes of the Vercors to install an experimental
garden in 1972 was choosing the best spot to grow aromatic and medicinal plants and extract the
purest possible essential oils. This quickly encouraged Sanoflore to opt for organic agriculture and
become an expert in Herbal remedies, Aromatherapy and organic Cosmetics.
In addition to the use of AB and Cosmebio labels, the Sanoflore laboratory is one of the brands
recommended by the One Voice association, which advocates an end to animal testing. Resolutely
modern, the Sanoflore laboratory has decided to develop further by joining the Active Cosmetics
division of the L’Oréal Group (October 2006). Worth a visit: the shop and the Aroma Domain
(created over 10 years ago, a 300m2 botanical garden features over 500 aromatic, medicinal and
perfume plants grown organically and used by the laboratory in its products).

Sanoflore was a great place to visit. This information was taken from an interesting download, with lovely pictures, which lists many aromatic places in southern France and also herbal gardens

I went to the March Reiki share in Abersoch and it was absolutely amazing! I had no idea what to expect, everyone was very friendly and made me feel instantly welcome. The next one is on April 11th - Karen Pendragon is giving a talk on crystals so should be a good one. The April one will be the last one until October.

Aromatherapy Research on the Web:

~ PubMed: A library of published research studies. Try a search such as "essential oil" or "massage AND aromatherapy." You will get a list of citations, many of which include abstracts. Try reading an abstract, which is a summary of the study presented in the research paper. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/

~ WebMD: A great site that distills and reports clinical studies in non-technical language. Try searching for articles using the phrases "essential oil" or "aromatherapy." http://www.webmd.com/

They are investigating the effects of certain odours on the following physiological parameters:

heart rate
respiration rate
EEG activity
blood oxygen
skin resistance
blood pressure

Smell has the ability to affect our physiological and psychological state via two mechanisms; (1) the instrinsic pharmacological properties of the odour molecule itself and (2) contextual association and memory.

Tim Jacobs' site is fascinating and also links to other information about olfaction research http://www.cf.ac.uk/biosi/staffinfo/jacob/teaching/sensory/olfact1.html#Mood

For example :

Smell and dreams

A recent study in Germany has shown that smell can influence the quality and emotional tone of dreams. Researchers wafted the smell of roses under the noses of sleeping volunteers in the REM phase of their sleep (dreaming phase). They then woke them up and asked them to report on the content and quality of their dreams. While the subjects did not report actually smelling anything during their dreams, the emotional tone of their dream did change depending upon the stimulation. The smell of roses evoked pleasant emotions and the smell of rotting eggs had the opposite effect.

Well I have a little copper still now, that has been adapted from a Grappa still. You can see a picture of it on our website
http://aromatherapywales.org/news/lang/en/the-welsh-healing-tradition/
I'm excited to use it and will start making some aromatic distilled waters when my garden herbs start growing. I would really like to get some information about how long to distill and how hot too. I saw Jo Nasr from Avicenna in Mid Wales distilling lavender water a couple of years ago and that is the basis of my knowledge. I have distilled a little in Italy with a bigger still for waters with rosemary and lavender and had some pretty good results aromatically, but wouldn't mind a little more information than trail and error. Also anyone been distilling indigenous wild plants like heather and gorse? I'm going to have a go and will post up the results in due course. Good fun.

I would really like to find a natural shampoo that doesn't contain the detergent Lauryl Sulfate. Shampoo bars don't work well in my hair, so that's not an option. Also they shampoo needs to be fragrance free or only essential oils.

I have several tattoos and have used essential oils for as long as I can remember. The only fading/loss of colour has been with colours such as yellow and orange, which is either due to inferior quality ink or a poor reaction to my own body chemistry. All the other colours remain vivid.I know of nobody else who has had problems due to using essential oils and I have many tattooed friends who do so. Go for it!

I used to live in Worcestershire before I came to Aberystwyth uni... and never went home. Back at home I spent many a sunny afternoon walking around what we called the Lavender fields. It's a beautiful place in the Cotswolds to walk and amazing to see all that Lavender in full bloom. They used to have a restaurant there, incorporating lavender into the food they served but I'm not sure if that part of it is still open.

Hey Dizzy why don't you do one of Aromantic's Natural Body Products course. You would love it and you could pick their brains about the legalities at the same time. Also you are, as an IFA registered and insured practitioner able to make body products up to - I think £10,000 worth a year, which should keep you going. Check it on the IFA website. Hope this helps.

I'm looking 2-4 ml pipette dropper bottles in reasonable amounts to decant rose and other absolutes into. It is so much easier to get the oil out. I got some form Materia Aromatica but they were quite expensive and I'd like to use these bottle for the essential oils I sell, but it would add to the cost. Also does anyone know how the rubber in the pipette bit would react to being in contact with the oil? Mine seems fine so far and I've had it in the bottle for 6 months. Another thought that these bottles may be good for the other viscose 'blobby' oils such as myrrh and benzoin.
